Troubleshooting
Fix common issues.
Step-by-step solutions to the most frequent setup problems.
Accessibility permission not granted
GoType requires Accessibility access to read text fields and insert suggestions.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
- Find GoType in the list and toggle it on.
- If GoType is not listed, open the app from your Applications folder first, then return to this screen.
- Restart GoType after granting access.
Suggestions not appearing
If the overlay doesn't show while you type, try the following:
- Confirm the GoType menu-bar icon is visible and the app is running.
- Verify Accessibility permission is granted (see above).
- Check that suggestions are not paused — click the menu-bar icon and look for a "Paused" status.
- Try a different app to rule out a per-app compatibility issue.
- Quit and reopen GoType.
App not detected
GoType detects the focused application through macOS Accessibility APIs. If your app is not detected:
- Check the Compatibility page — some apps require a one-time setup step.
- For browsers, make sure you're focused in a text input, not the address bar.
- VS Code and most code editors only work in AI sidebar chats, not the main editor.
- If your app isn't listed at all, contact us — we may be able to add support.
